Herb lovers who process herbs frequently and with high demands often use certain equipment that makes life easier in the herb kitchen. In addition to mortars, herb choppers and the normal kitchen knife, herb grinders are also used to grind your weed. Thanks to their special processing, fresh herbs can be cut very finely and used to season soups, roasts or salads.

Herb mills are sometimes also referred to as grinders or choppers and are mainly used to chop herbs. A typical herb grinder consists of two disks equipped with sharp blades. The fresh herbs are inserted into a cavity so that they can then be chopped up by turning the two discs in opposite directions. As a result, herb leaves that were cut smoothly are rarely observed, but rather chopped herbs.

Many herb grinders have a hand crank, which is particularly helpful when processing larger portions. These cranks can usually be exchanged so that they are practical for both left- and right-handers. Classic mills are usually mechanical, but some manufacturers also offer electric models.

Even though many herb grinders are suitable for chopping fresh herbs, there are a few things to keep in mind. Most herbs are washed before preparation and before chopping. In such cases, it is advisable to dab the herbs with a kitchen towel if possible. It is even better if the fresh herbs are washed a few hours before preparation and allowed to air dry. If the herbs get into the herb grinder too wet, the passage may be blocked and the herbs have to be laboriously removed from the opening. The herb grinder should be cleaned immediately afterwards, otherwise, some herb particles can stick together and are difficult to remove. It is usually sufficient to rinse off with warm water after use.
